This is a photo series of artwork I created using myself as a canvas and model to display how make-up has the ability to transform the way that we look. My friend is an amateur make-up artist studying stage make-up in a drama class at the University of Windsor. The ability she has to transform my face with limited knowledge and experience goes to show how easy it is for women to change themselves. Professional make-up artists are even more knowledgable about the ways to contour faces, and use make-up to create different effects on women's faces. I am not a model and nor do I ever intend to be a model after this photoshoot. Modelling is not easy. It is extremely hard to understand how to place your body or move your face and create a soft but also striking expression. The types of photo's I like to take are real and raw full of smiles and laughs and I found that when you have a restrictive set of positions you want to portray it is very difficult. This project really helped me better understand the creativity and skill it takes to being a model and gave me a lot more respect for modelling as a career. Each photo has a different story, and you can interpret them in anyway that you desire. But the take home message form this artwork is that make-up has the ability to be a powerful tool or a tool that makes us feel powerless. My history with make-up has always been negative as I've used it as a method to hide myself. But since embarking on my journey with acne and discovering natural methods to heal myself I've come to the understanding that my acne is beautiful in it's own right and I was more beautiful by being confident in my insecurities. Please click on the images below to read about the story that goes along with the images. I really enjoyed creating this artwork and I enjoyed the creative process that myself and my friends worked towards during the two hours of preparation, photoshoot and debriefing! Thank you for your interest in my work and I hope you too find it as inspiring and empowering as I did.
